Over the festive period we reached out to the gin drinkers, avid knitters and crafters that there are on Shetland and beyond. The competition was to create the best Winter Warmer accessory (or set of) that would fit onto one of the Shetland Reel gin bottles. With every knock of the postie on the distillery door there has been a buzz of excitement to open up and see the entries coming in.Â
We have been amazed by the quality of Winter Warmer accessories and the effort put in by all the entrants! The entries were marked on visual impact, quality, finish, the fit and imagination. After a tough afternoon of judging by local residents and active members of the Scottish Womens Institute (SWI) Minnie Mouatt and Beth Edwardson alongside owner Debbie Strang the top three positions were decided upon.
Wilda Southren took home the top position and £100 of gin!
Â
Remarking on Wilda's entry the judges had this to say;
The excellent entry reflects the Shetland Reel brand with the name running through the centre of the bottle cover and topped off with a perfect little hat. It is a wonderful cover for our bottle, letting people know what is inside, but keeping everything fully covered.
The judges were in agreement that this was a great entry and a worthy winner!
In a close second place was Anna Niven with a beautiful set of covers perfectly matched to the colours of our gin bottles. And following in third was Ann Sakamoto with a lovely open cover topped off by the cutest viking hat we've seen!
All the entrants have received a bottle of gin and a free tour to come and see the distillery, have a gin tasting and check out all the entries which will be on display for summer 2018.
Check out the gallery below to see all the amazing entries, these will be on display at the distillery so make the journey north, have a gin and enjoy them in person. And if this has inspired you keep an eye out for our next competition!
